Dreamgirls London Savoy Theatre

On Saturday we were lucky enough to get last minute tickets to see the matinee performance for Dreamgirls. I have wanted to see the show on the stage since watching the film 10 years ago. Many a time I’ve put one ticket in my online basket to go and see it by myself but then stopped myself. I decided to try and buy two on a whim and came away with two front row stalls tickets.

As it was a whim I hadn’t warned N what exactly we were going to see, I’d normally show him some clips or pictures so he would know what to expect. He went in and got comfortable with his little booster cushion and from the moment the curtain went up he was enraptured. Amber Riley gave an amazing rendition of And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going and owned the stage with her voice. Adam J Bernard (Jimmie Early) had some of the best costume changes. All of the cast made the show worth going to see, Joe Aaron Reid (Curtis Taylor Jr.) played the slick cars sales man well and had your trust even when he had shown his true colours.

N says it was very good and his favourite song was Move.

If you are planning to take your child to see Dreamgirls be warned there are a couple of swear words used, and the music is loud for little ears. Neither of those are enough for me to not consider going to see it again with N in tow.

At the end of the show N got a little wave from some of the cast which absolutely made his day.
